Top Winter Skin Saviors

Blogmas: Day Sixteen

Winter is probably my least favourite mont.- it's rainy, cold, windy and miserably grey. My skin would definitely agree. The cold weather can really take its toll on the skin by drying it out, making it appear dull and just generally feeling run down, so a good pamper is always in order. I’ve put together a few of my favourite skincare products that have helped tackle any dry, dull and damaged skin this winter, and I hope these picks can help if your skin is in need of some TLC too.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (£23) - a very rich cream which sinks in so quickly and leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth the next day. A little goes a long way so the investment really is worth it in my eyes. Packed full of Avocado Oil and Apricot Kernel Oil, it smells amazing too!

Nuxe Comforting Cleansing Milk (£14) - I often find moisturising cleansers not particularly clarifying or cleansing however, that's not the case for this one. I've repurchased this cleanser so may times as I love it that much. This rose-scented cleanser has a rich, smooth and comfortable texture that perfectly cleanses, removes make-up and protects the skin from dryness with a non-oily finish. Skin is left supple and comfortable.

Kiehl's Avocado Creamy Eye Treatment (£20) - A luxuriously thick and rich eye cream, packed full of Avocado cream and other goodies that our skin loves. Whilst this treatment is highly concentrated and has a thick texture, it is still very light and waters down when tapped in - making it perfect for the delicate under-eye area.

St. Ives Invigorating Scrub (£4.19) - Skin can become so dull and tired in winter so it's crucial that a good exfoliator is at hand. This scrub sloughs away dead skin cells to reveal naturally beautiful and healthy looking skin. The deep cleansing formula gently exfoliates, removing dull, dead skin cells. Skin is left smooth, radiant and healthy.

Origins GinZing Moisturiser (£24) - a gel-like moisturiser that although probably best used in summer for its light texture and fresh feel, provides the radiance and glow skin lacks of in winter. This lightweight, oil-free moisturiser is fortified with skin-boosters like Panax Ginseng and Coffee Bean. It instantly hydrates and revs up radiance. Lacklustre-looking skin is rapidly refreshed and revitalised to create a healthy, vibrant glow.

Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins (£35) - a thick, creamy and ultra luxurious overnight cream that smells good enough to eat. The cream is packed full with natural goodness such as vitamins C, E & H, minerals and moisture-rich replenishers. While relaxing aromas lull you to sleep, skin sloughs away dry, dead layers and eradicates the appearance of dullness to wake up looking radiant & refreshed.

It's Beginning to Smell A Lot Like Christmas

Blogmas: Day Twelve
Everyone loves a good Christmas candle, but I feel us beauty addicts have moved on from the days of the old favourite Christmas Cookie Yankee Candle. We're now in search of more sophisticated, woody scents that fill our homes with fragments of cinnamon, pine and a whole lotta' Christmas spirit. I'm currently a little burn-happy for the Crabtree and Evelyn Windsor Forest candle - which (if it lasts!) I will most definitely burn on Christmas day. Now, below are my favourite Christmassy candles on the market; I've rubbed my nose into them all more than several times and can officially say...they're deliciously beautiful. But if you're looking for a little more candle scope, check out this amazing post by A Model Recommends too!

  1. Urban Outfitters Oriental Woods Candle
  2. Space N.K Shimmering Spice Candle
  3. Diptyque Sapin Candle
  4. Neiman Marcus Masion Francis Kurkdijan (this smells like a Christmas tree!)
  5. Urban Outfitters Elderflower & Guava Soy Wax Candle
  6. Diptyque Baies Candle
  7. Urban Outfitters Winter Candy Candle
  8. Urban Outfitters Spiced Pumpkin Soy Wax Candle
  9. Urban Outfitters Winter Wonderland Soy Wax Candle

Do you love burning candles in the winter? If so, what ones are you currently burning?

The Winter Mani

Blogmas: Day Eleven

Our hands can become so dry in winter that they somewhat resemble prunes, and our nails turn brittle and chipped. But nothing that a little at-home mani can't fix! Time to buff, shape, oil up and paint away. Things will look salon fresh within just a few minutes.

  1. Prep - Before I apply nail varnish, I like to remove any previous colour with Bourjois 1 Seconde Magic Polish Remover. Then it's time to grab the tools; a quick buff and file using the Soap & Glory Nail File is all I need to get my nails back in to tip top shape. This provides a nice base for fresh polish. To hydrate and repair cuticles, I turn to O.P.I Cuticle Oil I only apply this oil as and when I need to.
  2. Base - I always think the perfect mani begins with a perfect base. I personally use the Essie Prep 'n' Perfect kit. The Grow Stronger base coat strengthens weak nails, whilst the Good to Go topcoat provides a beautiful glossy finish.
  3. Paint - Go for whatever seasonal colour you wish. I love wearing reds and burgundys on my nails during colder months and I'm currently wearing Essie Red Nouveau - a stunning crimson red.
  4. Lotion - Finish it all off by giving yourself a little hand massage. Put some hand cream into your hands and thoroughly massage it in, pushing your fingers into your palms for a relaxing feel.

What nail colour do you love wearing in the winter?

Winter Woes: Tips For Keeping Hair Frizz-Free

My hair in winter is a topic I usually wish to avoid to speak about; it's that bad. Picture this: a huge, uncontrollable, frizzy, tangly, curly mess. The early morning mist may be great for photography or creating the perfect setting in a novel, but for my hair, certainly not. The extreme mix of heat tools and hot showers with cold, windy air is not a good combination. However, below are a few products alongside trusty tips and tricks I swear by to prevent my hair getting too unruly...

  1. Oil - Always my go-to product for banishing dry, frizzy and tangly hair. The Lee Stafford Argan Oil is my hair bible when it comes to frizziness, and is a product that I've used for over four years now. I genuinely believe this product is under-hyped as in my eyes, it's the best oil out there.
  2. Hydrating products - The cold, damp, winter air can sap all the moisture out of hair so hydrating products are a must-have. Personally, I use the L'Oréal Hair Expertise Everstrong Shampoo to strengthen and repair my thin, dry hair and then either the L'Oréal Hair Expertise Replenishing and Taming or Super Sleek Smoothing and Taming Conditioner. I highly recommend this range as the products are extremely effective, luxurious and at affordable prices.
  3. Use less heat, in an effective way - During winter, I let my hair air-dry (as if I was to straighten or blow-dry it, it would still be curly/ wavy in the morning) and then after applying oil, I will lightly straighten the underneath sections. The underneath of my hair tends to be more curly and frizzy than the rest as it's thinner there. All in all, I find this an effective way of keeping my hair frizz-free and tame without completely drying it out and damaging it further.
  4. Straighten naturally - A great way of using even less heat or ditching the straighteners completely is to use products that straighten hair. I love using the Tresemmé Keratin Smooth 7 Day Treatment. In all honesty, this product doesn't last seven days so don't be fooled by that, however, it is a great product that will keep hair straight, sleek and smooth for a few days. The Keratin Smooth range is one that I highly recommended.
  5. Keep brushing to a minimum - Brushing hair makes it 100x frizzier. Keep brushing to a minimum, and if hair feels tangly or knotty, either use fingers or a tangle teezer.
  6. Tuck hair into a scarf or coat - This is my last resort! To keep my hair from getting insanely out of control, I'll tuck it into my coat or scarf and it will keep silky smooth and frizz-free.
