Tuesday Ten: Makeover Your Summer Beauty Bag:

My makeup never lasts in the summer. It somehow disappears somewhere else, creases like a screwed-up t-shirt and my forehead beams like a light. However, I have learnt a few tricks to keep it put and stay nice all day, such as a setting spray or using powders and waxes instead of creams (more on this later). My general 'summer makeup look' consists of radiant, bronzed, matte skin with pink, gold and brown shades throughout.  The problem is, it never lasts and by the end of the day I look like I ran a marathon in the makeup. Plus, for summer, its nice to add a pop of colour on the lips or cheeks such as a fresh orange colour or peachy shade. Here are a few tips and products to 1. keep your makeup put all day and 2. add in new products and colours suitable for summer. Click 'read more' below to well, read more!
  1. Using a makeup setting spray, such as the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, will fix your makeup in place, making it last all day long even if your skin is 'sweaty' and oily, preventing the dreaded 'makeup meltdown'.
  2. It's always a good idea to wear a primer, for numerous reasons. It will make your makeup last longer, your foundation will glide on better and not turn orange throughout the day, prevent creasing, plus, it means that your foundation is sitting on the primer not on your skin, so it's better for you. I love the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, the perfect size for travelling.
  1. Switch your foundation to something lighter and fresher for summer. A heavy foundation won't last and will be too heavy. Try a tinted moisturizer, BB/CC cream. I hear that the Clinique CC cream is great.
  2. Regardless of what you hear, never use cream products in the summer. They won't last as long and will turn patchy (particularly blusher). Yes, a gorgeous, dewy look is great for the winter, but for summer, it's better to stick to powders, waxes and sometimes liquids can be ok too. Benefit's Cha Cha Tint and Coralista blushers give a beautiful, peachy tint to the cheeks.
  3. Instead of applying a normal powder, throw in a translucent/parent setting powder (e.g. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder) to your summer beauty bag. Why? It will not turn cakey or crease throughout the day like a normal powder would, it is more sheer still gives the desired effect wanted, it works on setting the makeup rather than extra coverage.
  4. Now, we don't want panda eyes, do we? Well, unless your going for that look, try a waterproof mascara like the Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara. This mascara will not budge or transfer at all.
  5. The thought of it being sticky and humid outside while wearing a lipgloss kills me. It won't last and just lipgloss in the summer is a bad decision full stop. A long-lasting and in my eyes, better alternative, is using a matte lipstick first all over the lips straight from the bullet, then applying either a small amount of lipgloss first or tinted lip balm. Its all about layering for a long-lasting finish.
  6. Don't just stop at the foundation primer; to stop eyeshadows and even concealers from creasing, transferring to different places and all that jazz, apply Benefit's Stay Don't Stray, which is actually one of my favourite new discoveries.
  7. Talking of Benefit, their Brow Zings kit is perfect for summer. Powders and/or pencils tend to budge and slide, so to keep your brows in the right place, apply the wax first and then the powder. The powder will stick onto the wax, making it last longer. Think of it as an eyebrow primer! Yay, a primer for everything!
  8. And lastly, moving off from makeup, let's look at nails. I love bright, punchy nails in the summer, like Essie's recent collections. I'm loving the colour 'naughty nautical!'. Orange, pink, light blue and pale yellow are common colours on my nails in the summer time!
