After waking up to yet another deep sea of blue in the sky, we caught the train up to Riffelalp. Riffelalp is yet another hamlet just above Zermatt, and sits right on the mountain side. When our chunky boots graced the hard rocks and stones of the path, we were greeted with a magnificent view. We were above the clouds. And that's exactly how we felt inside too; elated, euphoric and free like birds.
We began our hike of the day by walking through Grunsëe, only half way however as we were planning to walk the two hours down to Zermatt. Click below to read more...

After a brief walk, we hiked back along the path to Riffelalp, where we stopped to gaze at the five-star hotel and had drinks in their outdoor restaurant.
The yellow sunshades make for quite the tan!
It was then time for our long descent back to Zermatt. Surrounded by a green border of pine trees and exotic flowers, we breathed in the crisp, fresh air and admired the scenery.
Towards the end of the hike we came to a flowing stream. It was so calm, peaceful and the perfect time to stop and recapture our breath after the walk.
We spent the afternoon like most of the others - lounging by the luxurious and relaxing pool, eating the delicious afternoon tea and perhaps, for some of us, catching a few Zzz's. Before we knew it, it was time to whip out the makeup, hair curlers and our snazzy outfits for dinner.

The dinner was magnificent as always - but would we expect anything less from the Swiss?
The next (and unfortunately, final!) Zermatt Photo Diary will be up Friday. Thanks for reading!
