Waking up to this majestic mountain every morning was euphoric and a sight I certainly didn't want to say goodbye to anytime soon. Luckily on our third day in beautiful Zermatt, we decided to relax around the town and immerse ourselves in the Swiss culture, with the Toblerone mountain planted right in front of our eyes all day. This was particularly moving as it was Switzerland's birthday - Swiss National Day. A day I adore to celebrate every year in this second home of mine. Click below to see more.
Coffee culture doesn't exist in Zermatt quite as it does in New York or London, nevertheless, we stopped for a cuppa and a bite to eat before exploring more of the town. The town was punctuated with a mirage of red and white everywhere, in homage to Swiss National Day.
Before we knew it dusk had landed upon us and it was time to pour our sun-kissed skin into skimpy dresses and delicate lace skirts. The festivities of August 1st are rather momentous and heart-warming in this small, quaint village. Locals and tourists come together to celebrate a truly wonderful country. Fireworks are lit up and the bursts of falling colour reflect in everyone's twinkling eyes, while the echoes of the bang roar in the mountains. Unfortunately, being such a precious village, the conditions for the fireworks have to be just right; not too wet and not too dry. This year it wasn't quite right. Nonetheless, we relished ourselves in the celebrations as we do any year.

But first, Prosecco.
There are only a few moments in life where we find ourselves lost for breath or words. I'd like to say this is one of them. It has been 150 years since the first person ever climbed the Matterhorn. During the whole of 2015 and at exactly 9:00pm, a pathway of lights twinkle up the mountain, one by one. This pathway lights the route Edward Whymper (the man to first climb the mountain) and a team took to reach the top. Its so beautiful, awesome and awe-inspiring. The whole village pauses and gladly stares at the Matterhorn for the eight minutes the lights are lit.
Another perfect evening to another perfect day.
